3DO MAGAZINE FIVE NOW RELEASED FOR ** N U M B E R S **
Yes i'm back once again with yet more information and interesting read
ups on the best console available to date 3DO. Thanx to Protocol in
my home city Birmingham, for writing up a couple of articles from
CVG etc. Thats another person converted from the rest (JAG etc) to the
best (3DO) by me haha:).

After drudling through my fair share of motionless, frame by frame,
dungeon adventures like Might & Magic, Wizardry and Skull Keep on
the current 16 bit hardware platforms, Seal of the Pharaoh is like
a breath of fresh air. Here, for the very first time, 32 bit meets
3D dungeon gaming, with spectacular results. Not that this is the
do all, end all 3D game, it's not. It is, most likely, just the tip
of the iceberg, now that we are entering the next plateau of gaming.
Nevertheless, no 3DO owner should be without this first 3D dungeon
RPG. Seal of the Pharaoh has you wandering through a mysterious
Eygptian Pyramid. What lies ahead are groups of ancient monsters who
protect these sacred walls from violators, such as yourself. You
must obtain ancient stone tablets, weapons and other clues, in search
of the key guardien who lies at the end of each tomb. Map carefully
and be very aware of your surroundings, because you can only save after
defeating each guardian. Die, even while fighting him, and you start
at the beginning of that tomb. The player interface is simple and
relies more on your ingenuity, then complex instructions. You quickly
get the feeling that it is you against the inhabitants of these

Way of the Warrior is Universal Interactive's (courtesy of developer
Naughty Dog) first foray into the 3DO fighting world and, coincidentally
is also the first fighting game for the 3DO. WOW combines features
found in some of the best arcade fighting games of the past few years
and puts them together in a graphic tour-de-force. It has the in-and-out
scaling of SNK's Art of Fighting, the digitized character graphics,
death moves and blood and gore of Mortal Kombat, the play mechanics of
both Mortal Kombat and Street Fighter 2, and the backgrounds that, right
now, only the 3DO can deliver. It is obvious that the designers and
artists at Naughty Dog have done their homework and that they are heavy,
heavy duty fighting game fanatics. Come August, 3DO owners will be
standing in line and waiting breathlessly for this one-and who can
blame them (us!)? You compete as one of nine challengers in a hand-to-
hand battle to the death. Players can compete in tournament mode
against the other computer competitors or go ahead in two player mode.
The skill level is adjustable so that you can handicap yourself, the
computer or a friend and make the game challenging and fun long after
the newness of the initial purchase has worn off. Universal has shown
good judgement in acquiring Way of the Warrior and we are sure that the
game is a sign of many great games to come from Naughty Dog in the
near future. We are very excited about the potential for this title and
look forward to giving you all of the details on Way of the Warrior in

The excellent Neo Geo beat 'em up Samurai Shodown is almost complete on
3DO. It's got all the features of the original, including close-ups
when fighters come together and all the moves and speed too. With
Super Streetfighter Turbo also coming to 3DO, it looks like it could
soon be the top 32-Bit machine for beat 'em ups. Hopefully we'll be
able to bring you more news on both games next month.

Rage are about to hit the premier league of football software with the
3do version of its hit Amiga footie game,STRIKER.
The Bootle based development company is headed by Paul Finnigen,who
helped found Ocean in the early eighties and comprises a 24 person
strong team.But even this core group is coming under pressure,due to
the emergence of the new systems over the next year,and is looking to
expand by another 10 to 15 members.
"As eveyone knows now the industry has been going through a period of
limbo between the 16-bit and future systems.But with the emergence of
the 32 and 64 bit systems this year and next,the industry is going to
enter a very exciting time" predicts Finnegan.
Striker on the3DO has been in development for the past six months,since
the arrival of the programming hardware from Japan.
The entire team express enthusiasm for the new CD-ROM based Console as
it removes their dependance on chip manufacturers and the economic
constraints therein.
"At the end of the day"remarks Paul "Software companies have taken the
blame for the price of the chips".
Importantly CD Rom based systems,he suggests,mean great value for money
for the all important consumer.
The team is equally excited at the prospect of the increase in power.
Striker on 3DO has enabled Rage to create visuals that were just a
dream back in the days of the early Amiga and Atari ST.
Essentially the teams desire is to create the gameplay,renowed on the
older formats,but with the sense of reality generated by the 3DO`s
custom graphic chips.To highlight this point,the opening sequence
consists of a high speed flight into a fully rendered football stadium
and arrival in front of the scoreboard to witness FMV footage taken
from the FA and BBC Granstand archives.
On the field the graphics are equally impressive combining a pitch
looking like it actually is made from grass with scrolling that moves
rapidly whilst maintaining essential fluidity.
The playing angle is set moving up field at about 30 feet above ground
level but zooms in to capture important action.To generate the player
sprites,actors were used against a blue backdrop,digitised and built up
running at about 8 frames a second.Alongside the usual moves,headers
and passes additional one touch pass feature has been included to add
more pace.
Striker 3DO kkeps up with the times by paying close attention to rule
changes.In particular tackles from behind are now illegal resulting in
an instant frrekick and a yellow card.The issue of defence plays a
major role in the game, as for the first time a shielding option is
present.A flick of the button allows the player to move around the ball
fending off the opposition a gives a strker valuable time to power up
that vital shot.When a goal hits the back of the net and the crowd
jubilation dies down an action replay in true TV tradition.Covering at
present 4 angles,the view is quite spectacular.
After months of programming the team are over the moon about the end
result "we are amazed at how lifelike the whole experience looks"says
Paul,"with the digitised players,the film clips and the action replay
its just like watching TV!
But as we speak the league table is beginning to fill and the playoffs
start in the battle for the number one slot.As ever CVG will be on the
ball with the news.
Time doesnt stand still for the Rage team as the future holds more in
store on the MegaDrive 32-bit add-on,the Saturn and Sony`s eagerly
awaited PlayStation.Although nothing is confirmed at the present rumour
has it that a version of Striker will appear on all three with another
sports title and a shoot-em up possibly in development for the PS-X.

So you`ve bought a crisp new 3DO and now you are after the kind of
games that will make your mate`s 16-bit machines look positively low
tech.
Ideally,you might want a game which is a much improved version of one
already available on another format,so that the difference is
startlingly obvious -and FIFA on 3DO looks like it may be the perfect
example.
As is blatantly obvious from our FIFA 3DO pictures (sorry I couldnt
do them justice in ansi :) the machines graphical capabilities are
stunning.Each player even has an animated shadow which changes
according to your viewpoint.The latter is the most impressive of this
latest conversion :EA has dropped the fixed viewpoint and given you the
chance to play from practically any angle -even from the players eye
view!
You`ll get support for up to six simultaneous players through linked
control pads,and there`s some nice touches in there too like FMV clips
of famous football moments.You can also expect more intelligent players
and improved sound to round of what is looking like a most excellent
package.

below them.....this text more or less speaks for itself without the
pics)
What you cant appreciate here is the superb use of sound in this
game.The excitement of the crowds cheers changes according to the
action on the pitch
The camera views are accessed via a pop-up screen and you get seven
perspectives.EA are also planning to incorporate a method by which you
can define your own viewpoint.
While you select your formations you can actually see the real line-up
on the pitch which is much better than just seeing your players
numbers.
